Summer term food drive

A huge thank you to all of the families at St. Andrew’s Montessori for supporting our summer term food drive! We managed to collect an abundance of food, from tinned goods, pasta and puddings to tea, coffee and toiletries.

Islington Montessori Nursery run summer food drive

All items will be donated to two of our local churches that give out food parcels and run food banks. They are as follows:

St. Andrew’s Church -Thornhill Square, N1 1BQ

Copenhagen Street Foodbank – Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, N1 0SR

More than ever, food banks have become critical to the wellbeing of families all over the UK. Recent statistics reveal that 4 million children are living in poverty; that’s almost a third of children in the UK – around nine in the average classroom. Rising living costs, low wages and cuts to benefits are all contributing factors.

There are also thousands more families living on the cusp of the poverty line, often as a result of an unexpected setback like illness or redundancy.

One of the effects of poverty is poor physical health, linked to hunger and lack of sustenance. The donations made by community members to churches and food banks can make a significant difference to a child or parent that would otherwise have missed a meal.

At St. Andrew’s Montessori we hope to do our little bit because we know that all the ‘little bits’ can affect positive change in our community.
