Understanding the New Ofsted Framework

At St Andrew’s Montessori, we are committed to providing an exceptional early years’experience, and part of that commitment involves staying aligned with the latest Ofsted expectations. As an Ofsted Outstanding Montessori school, we take great pride in maintaining the highest standards of care and education, and the new Ofsted framework offers a valuable opportunity to continue refining and strengthening our practice.

The updated framework places a strong emphasis on the quality of education, focusing on how well school settings design and deliver a curriculum that supports children’s learning and development in meaningful, lasting ways. One of the most significant shifts is the move away from data-heavy assessments toward a deeper understanding of each child’s learning journey. This aligns beautifully with the Montessori approach, which has always prioritised observation, individualised learning and nurturing children’s natural curiosity.

Inspectors now look closely at the intent behind the curriculum, the implementation of learning experiences and the impact these have on children’s progress.

Safeguarding, behaviour and personal development remain central pillars of the inspection process, with particular attention given to how settings foster independence, resilience and emotional wellbeingareas that Montessori education champions naturally.

For parents, the new framework offers reassurance that inspections focus on what truly matters: the richness of children’s daily experiences and the effectiveness of teaching in preparing them for future learning. At St Andrew’s Montessori, we welcome this renewed focus and remain dedicated to ensuring that every child thrives in a nurturing, stimulating environment.
