World Book Day is always a highlight of the year at St. Andrew’s Montessori, and this year was no exception. Children arrived dressed as their favourite book characters, filling classrooms with wizards, animals, fairies and adventurers.
Throughout the day, we explored new books, shared stories and brought characters to life through imaginative play and discussions. Our classrooms were filled with laughter and excitement as children connected with their favourite tales in a meaningful and interactive way. We also had a visit from one of our parents who joined us for a reading session, making the day extra special for everyone.
And the fun didn’t stop there! We even took a trip to our local library, where the librarian welcomed us with more fantastic stories and helped the children discover new books to love. It was wonderful to see their inquisitiveness as they explored the library shelves, eager to dive into different adventures.
The Montessori approach to learning values storytelling as a powerful tool for education, fostering language development, imagination and critical thinking skills. At our school we believe that reading is the key to unlocking a child’s natural curiosity and love of learning. Rather than simply teaching children to read, we aim to cultivate a deep appreciation for literature, encouraging them to explore books independently and at their own pace. By immersing themselves in stories, children develop empathy, creativity and a lifelong love for reading.

Although reading is an integral part of everyday learning at our school, Word Book Day is a chance to revel in the joy of stories. Thank you to all the children, parents and staff who made this day so memorable. Here’s to a lifetime of storytelling and adventure!
