Jeans for Genes 2017

St Andrew’s Montessori is always excited to participate in Jeans for Genes fundraisers and this September past, we managed to raise a fabulous £151.72 for the charity.

Jeans for Genes helps disorder-specific charities and patient groups to deliver inspiring projects and support services for children affected by a genetic disorder in the UK. Donations received from schools and organisations taking part in Jeans for Genes Days around the country provide grants for day-to-day support, equipment, nursing and patient support services, and events which bring together affected children and their families.

If you have a child at St Andrew’s Montessori, you’ll already know that participating in a Jeans for Genes Day simply means that everyone comes to school in their jeans in exchange for a donation. Not only do we make the day a fun school event but it’s also an ideal opportunity for the children to start to understand and accept the differences that make us all unique. Not only that but how we, as individuals and also as a community, can do our small part to help!

One in 25 children in the UK has a genetic disorder and £50 of the money we might raise on a Jeans for Genes Day pays for a parent to attend a support day where they’ll get the advice and guidance they need to care for their disabled child!

Thank you to all the mums and dads who contributed to this year’s Jeans for Genes Day! We’re already excited about 2018’s event, which is set for September 21.
