A Welcome from the principal...

St. Andrew’s Montessori School has been a treasured part of the Islington community since opening its doors in 1988. What began as a small school with just two classrooms and 14 children has grown into a thriving, joyful environment where children are nurtured, respected, and inspired to learn. The school is home to over 50 children between the ages of 2 and 6 years old. Children from all religious and ethnic backgrounds are welcome at St.Andrew’s Montessori.

Now under new leadership, St. Andrew’s enters an exciting new chapter. As principal, I am proud to build on the school’s rich history and ensure it remains a soft and gentle space filled with charm, delight, and purpose. We aim to be more than just a school – we are a community, where families feel supported, and children flourish.

As a mother myself, I understand how important it is to find a school that you can trust – where your child is seen, valued, and encouraged to grow. St. Andrew’s continues to be that place. We welcome new families with open arms and look forward to the shared journey ahead.

Warmly,

Nina O’Neil

READY FOR THE WORLD AHEAD

The Montessori Ethos & Approach

At St. Andrew’s Montessori, our ethos is rooted in the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, fostering a nurturing and stimulating environment where each child is respected as a unique and independent individual. We believe in supporting the natural curiosity and developmental rhythms of children through hands-on learning, freedom within limits, and carefully prepared spaces designed to encourage independence, concentration, and a love of learning. Our approach emphasizes social, emotional, cognitive, and independent development equally, empowering children to become confident, capable, and compassionate members of their community.

Our Methods

The Montessori philosophy embraces the natural environment and aims to keep teaching materials as organic as possible in order to emphasise the importance of keeping in touch with nature. St Andrew’s church, where our school is based, is the physical embodiment of the aforementioned philosophy.

At St. Andrew’s Montessori, we blend the freedom of the Montessori approach with the structure of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), ensuring that children receive a well-rounded education in line with national expectations.

Monty’s Music

🎶 Monty’s Choir

At the heart of our school is Monty’s Choir – a joyful space where children come together to sing, perform, and grow. Each term, our talented young performers showcase what they’ve learned in special performances for family and friends.
Through music, we promote confidence, teamwork, and support the development of language and communication skills. We love music and aim to weave it into our daily school life – because every day is better with a song!

Singing and playing music is a big part of our day, whether when washing hands or listening to Zulu lullabies while learning about Africa. Our children love it so much we decided to celebrate this by sharing recordings of their wonderful music sessions. When discussing this with our boys and girls, together we decided to use the magic of music to help our local community and charities, chosen on a regular basis as appropriate
